Meet Your Tamarron Resort Area Experts

  • Heather Dawson

The Durango & Tamarron Resort Collection
One of the things I like best about our area is the climate - you can't beat it! So many sunny days and low humidity really make for year-round great weather. Some things I enjoy doing here are boating on both McPhee Reservoir and Lake Vallecito, visiting area ruins like little-known Hovenweep or the surprises you find in Sand Canyon, and hiking our many trails. A couple of my favorite hikes are Mountain View Crest and Vallecito Creek Trail. If you have never attended our Snowdown Festival in the winter, it is one-of-a-kind, must see event with a different theme each year. Of course, I should also mention food and drink! Oscar’s Café is my favorite place for breakfast, we love the cobb salad at Olde Tymer’s Café, and you can’t go wrong with Pop Sushi or Ken & Sue's for dinner. My favorite local beers are the Mexican Lager from Ska and Kolsch from Steamworks. If you drive the Million Dollar Highway loop for the fall colors, be sure to stop in for Detroit-style pizza at Brown Dog in Telluride and for the hot jalapeno poppers at the Enterprise Bar in Rico. And since we live here, we have many more suggestions to suit your own style. You are sure to have a memorable vacation in the Durango area!

My favorite part of Durango, Colorado, is exploring the breathtaking San Juan Mountains, where hiking and scenic drives showcase the area's stunning natural beauty. The historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad offers an unforgettable journey through rugged canyons and picturesque landscapes. Downtown Durango is full of charm, with its unique shops, lively restaurants, and rich Old West history. Whether it's skiing at Purgatory Resort in the winter or rafting the Animas River in the summer, Durango's year-round outdoor adventures make it a truly special place.

What I love most about Durango, Colorado, is its vibrant blend of outdoor adventure and small-town charm. The Animas River Trail is a personal favorite, offering a scenic path for walking, biking, or simply soaking in the views of the rushing water. Durango's rich history comes alive in its beautifully preserved downtown, where you can explore local breweries, galleries, and historic landmarks. Plus, the proximity to Mesa Verde National Park adds an incredible opportunity to discover ancient cliff dwellings and connect with the area's fascinating past.
