It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we inform you of the death of our colleague, friend, and VRC co-founder and CEO, Chris Bettin. Chris passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14th, around 4 pm, surrounded by family and friends in the comfort of his home. Chris was diagnosed with large cell neuroendocrine cancer in late August, which resulted in Chris taking a medical leave of absence and stepping away from the company to pursue medical treatment shortly thereafter.
The VRC family lost a co-founder, visionary, and friend, and the world has lost an amazing, kind-hearted, and generous human being. We are eternally grateful for the time, insight, knowledge, and experience he shared. Chris leaves behind a company that reflects his vision, and his spirit will forever live on in the foundation of VRC.
Mary Beth Miles, our COO, who has been filling the role of Interim CEO in Chris' absence, will be VRC's permanent CEO moving forward.
Some of you may wish to make a gesture to celebrate him. If so, in lieu of any floral arrangements, Chris’ family is asking that contributions be redirected to one of many local nonprofits in his name. Here are a few local organizations that Chris supported:
Durango TrailsSASOBoys and Girls Club of La Plata County
Manna Soup Kitchen
The Ouray Via Ferrata
